My name is Elizabeth Ross, But people know me as Betsy Ross. In 1793, my mother, father, and sister died within days of each other from the yellow fever. The most rememberable moment in my life was at the age of 24 after being newly widowed by John Ross I received a visit from George Washington, Robert Morris and George Ross. This is when they asked me to sew the first flag. Shortly after in 1777 I got married to Joseph Ashburn. Together we had 1 kid named Zillah who unfortunately died at only nine months old. After being married to Joseph for 3 years in 1780 he died in an english prison. I was very sad seen as Joseph never got to meet Zillah. Then in 1783 I was lucky enough to find my third and final husband that I love with all my heart. His name is John Claypoole, I met him because he was friends with my second husband. Together we have 5 kids, all girls. Most of the I work in my upholstery shop working on furniture but I do all manner of sewing work. Around the house the kids do most of the work now that I have taught them how.
